Does the 'Wine & Horse' tour include horseback riding? No, it is an observational tour that take you onto private equine estates of world-class working horse facilities. You’ll have the opportunity to meet horse trainers, watch horses being worked, touch and interact with champion horses, enjoy the serenity of breathtaking horse facilities, watch mares and foals (spring) and learn about their riding discipline or breeding program. Fascinating for both long-time horse enthusiasts and ‘horse lovers from afar,’ it is fun and entertaining for everyone, including well-behaved children.

Is there a horseback riding option? Yes, two options, in fact. We offer two optional excursions centered around horseback riding. One is a lunch and wine tasting tour in Santa Ynez that includes a private, one-hour horseback ride along the Santa Ynez River. Proceeds benefit the great program at the Santa Ynez Valley Therapeutic Riding Academy. Also offered is a private horseback ride along the beach and bluffs in Santa Barbara. This only includes the horseback ride from a private location in Summerland, as lunch and wine tasting are not included.

Can I just go wine tasting? Yes, we offer a deluxe 'Wine Tasting and Food Pairing' tour. This takes you to four wineries / tasting rooms and provides an abundant assortment of cheeses, meats and chocolates to pair with some of the great wines in the valley. This 3.5 hour tour does not include horse facility visits.

What do I wear? Feel free to dress casual and comfortable. Layers are recommended for spring and fall as temperatures can change significantly from morning to afternoon. Close-toed shoes are recommended for times around horses.

Can children come on the tour? Yes! There is no age limit to tour guests. Children are welcome on the tour and are expected to be well behaved and follow instructions from the guides.

Where does the tour pick me up? All tours depart from and return to the Santa Ynez Valley Marriott. Guests in Santa Barbara can arrange for pick up and return at an additional round-trip fee of $60 per location.

Can we choose which horse facilities we visit? It’s likely, though we can’t guarantee any farm due to the nature of breeding and show seasons, weather and scheduling conflicts. We will certainly do our best to plan around your wishes. Once your tour is booked, we will call you and discuss available options and design a customized day.

Can I book a same-day tour? Maybe. Last-minute seating is only available by calling our office at 805-688-5984. Unless there is room availability in an existing tour that same day, tours require a 24-hour advance reservation.

Can I reserve the trip for a private group? Yes, our Luxury Suburban holds seven passengers and is available for private groups with a paid reservation equivalent to the fee for six passengers.

Thank you for entrusting us with your day in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley!
